Chocolate in 5 minutes

So we say this on the Internet and decided to try it out. Yes, it takes about 5 minutes. Ours was a bit longer since we also made some homemade frosting.

Ingredients:

4 Tablespoons cake flour
4 Tablespoons sugar
2 Tablespoons cocoa
1 Egg
3 Tablespoons milk
3 Tablespoons oil
1 Mug

The Mug we used were large soup mugs from Tai Pan Trading. We knew that the contents would raise a little and we wanted it all to stay in the cup.

Instructions:
Mix flour, sugar and cocoa

Spoon in 1 egg

Add milk and oil and mix well.

Microwave on high for 3 minutes

Let it sit for about 1 more minute in the mug
Take a knife and loosen the cake from the cup.

Dump cake out on a plate

We found that the top looked a little better then the bottom so we turned it over. We then created our own chocolate frosting.

Frosting Ingredients
1 cup powdered sugar
3 tablespoons of cocoa
3 tablespoons of butter
2 tablespoons of milk
1/2 teaspoon of vanilla

Mix well.

Results
We didn't like the cake. It was mediocre at best. It was even a little tough. The frosting is a family favorite so that helped...but not much. Bottom line - if you are really craving a some chocolate go an get a few of the Warm Delights from Betty Crocker and keep them in your pantry. They fulfill the need with more ease and taste better!!!

And finally - - the little ones decided that a snowy ice would be better - yet the sour green apple apparently stains anything it touches.

Chinese Marble Cookies

For the 4th of July we decided to make some Chinese Marble Cookies. These are an old family favorite and Drew's family use to buy them when he lived in NY. Eventually one of his brothers figured out the recipe and shared it with the rest of the family. They are a little messy to make....but you'll end up with sort of a crunchy cookie that takes really good.

This is the mess just before you place them in the fridge to cool.

This is the final product. Yum!

Chinese Marble Cookies

The recipe is a little strange since it was created from a really huge batch and slimmed down to only make a few dozen.....one of these days we'll need to adjust the amounts...yet these work.

Ingredients:

1 ¾ cups + 1 ½ Tbsp. sugar (14 oz.)

1 ½ tsp. salt (¼ oz.)

2 cups +3 Tbsp. shortening (14 oz.)

5 cups cake flour (20 oz.)

1 ¼ tsp. baking soda (scant ¼ oz.)

2 eggs large

½ Tbsp. vanilla (¼ oz.)

¾ tsp almond flavoring (c oz.)

Directions:

Put dough on plastic wrap. Flatten out. Drizzle with ½ cup chocolate chips melted. Fold dough over and over to slightly marble chocolate. Roll to shape into 2-2½" roll. Refrigerate 2 hours. Slice ½" thick slices. Let come to room temperature. Bake 350 for 14-18 min. Makes 3 dozen. These are an absolute favorite of ours.
